Filip Holacky
Filip Holacky (b. 1993) is a Czech composer and writer currently residing in Edinburgh, UK. He is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he studied Composition under the tutelage of David Fennessy, and the Brno Conservatoire in the Czech Republic where he studied Music Performance.
He’s a winner of various composition competitions such as C4’s Student Composition Competition in New York, 2017. In 2019, his opera The Orangery, or Whispering in the Storm received the Edinburgh Studio Opera Award for the Best New Opera. In 2020, he was chosen by an internationally acclaimed composer and conductor Bright Sheng to serve as a Composition Fellow at the festival Intimacy of Creativity in Hong Kong which has been indefinitely postponed due to COVID-19.
His Quartet for flute, violin, cello, and piano has been chosen out of almost 8000 entries in the Kaleidoscope Call for Scores 2020 to be performed by Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra. In 2020, Filip composed an operatic miniature Repülj, madár! or Auschwitz Lovers on original libretto for the project #OperaHarmony that was entirely created online for OperaVision.eu.

Filip has been frequently championing new musical theatre scores and created the series of orchestral concerts at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he conducted his own orchestrations of works by Nikko Benson, Sarah Taylor Ellis, Steve Marzullo, Shonagh Murray, and Ben Toth. In 2019, Filip has created orchestrations for Seasons, the Musical by Elaine Cotignola and Katie Hammond that were performed at Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater in Orlando, FL. He’s also conducted two original full-length musical theatre scores, The Perfect Line and Lost in Time at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
His creative output contains both large scale and chamber projects. Filip’s works have been performed around the world by ensembles such as Cuarteto Madrigal (Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional OSN México), Red Note Ensemble, C4 Ensemble, or the Brodick Quartet, among many others.
